Band Director: Ms. Margie Harrison
Margie Harrison became the Director of Bands at Broughton High School in 2012. Before coming to Broughton, she taught at Ledford Middle School and assisted at Ledford High School in Davidson County. During her tenure at Ledford, both the middle and high school concert bands earned several "Superior" and "Excellent" ratings at MPA, and the marching band won consistent first place and Band of the Day awards across North Carolina and Viriginia. She was voted Ledford's Teacher of the Year for the 2010-2011 school year.
Margie also served on the NCMEA board as the President of District 5, as well as on the board of the Northwest District Bandmasters Association as the middle school representative. In addition to these honors, she was the guest clinician for the All County Middle School Honor Bands in Beaufort, Stokes, and Surry counties.
Margie is originally from Raleigh, NC and graduated from Wake Forest-Rolesville High School in 2000. She attended UNC-Greensboro (UNC-G), where she earned a Bachelor of Music in Music Education in 2004 and a Masters in Music Education in 2008. While at UNC-G, she studied clarinet with Dr. Ed Riley and had the great opportunity to play in the UNC-G Wind Ensemble under the direction of Dr. John Locke.
Margie has a long history with Broughton High School even though she herself did not attend. Her sister graudated from Broughton in 2005 and was a member of the band. Her mother and several aunts and uncles are also Broughton graduates and are thrilled that Margie will finally learn the Broughton Fight Song!
Margie is very excited to be a part of the Broughton community and is honored to carry on the tradition of excellence for which the band program is so well known.
