General Information for All CompetitionsAdmission Fee and Parent Attendance at CompetitionsWe would LOVE for ALL parents to attend our competitions. Parents have the opportunity to watch the band progress from the beginning of the season to our final performance. Each show gets better! Parent enthusiasm in the stands helps our students to perform at their best and shows the judges and other bands that we have a supportive band family. Competitions are fundraisers for the hosting band. We are occasionally given passes for a certain number of parent helpers. These will be distributed to parents/families based on volunteering and the needs of the band. Other parents and families attending the competition and sometimes volunteer helpers must pay admission fee to competitions to support the host band. We do not know the fee for each particular competition, but generally admission runs between $5-10. If we have space on the busses for parents to travel with the band, Ms. Harrison will let us know. Seats on the bus are usually reserved only for parent chaperones/volunteers and can not be guaranteed. Uniform InformationFor 2018-19 Competitions we will be wearing our BLACK uniforms. Ms. Harrison will let students know which shirt (Purple band shirt or show shirt) underneath the uniform. Please be sure that you bring your uniform in on the FRIDAY BEFORE EACH COMPETITION for our rehearsal! Items that are not hanging on the hanger in the garment bag (shoes, socks, compression shorts, gloves, etc) should go into each student’s purple drawstring bag and hang that over the garment bag. Please make sure your shoes are clean—use shoe polish if needed (kiwi preferred). We are using black hats and tuba berets. Hospitality InformationAt each competition we share in a potluck meal. Each band member contributes to the meal. We will eat at BHS before leaving for the competition. If you are not planning to join in on the potluck, please bring your own dinner. Cookies will be provided to all students after the competition. Please notify the hospitality chair at hospitality@broughtonband.org if your student has any allergies so that we can make sure to have food he/she can eat. Here are a few reminders about preparing and sending food for our potluck meal. For those parents who were asked to bring cookies (our “cookie brigade”) - Thank you! Please remember to also bring your entrée’ or side along with your cookies – 4 dozen, labeled if containing nuts & in shoe boxes (if possible, great for transporting) If you have any questions or need additional information about “feeding the band”, feel free to contact Dawn Wade or Lori Moore (hospitality@broughtonband.org) Behavior at Competitions:Please take a few minutes to remind yourselves of the rules you agreed to in our marching band contract and in the WCPSS student handbook. Students may be sent home during the course of the competition if these expectations are not met.
